The Philippine job market exhibited positive signs in June 2024, according to reports from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Let’s look into these reports to understand the current employment landscape in the Philippines.

Jobless Rate Drops in Philippine Job Market

There’s good news for job seekers! The number of unemployed Filipinos went down to 1.62 million in June 2024, compared to 2.33 million in June 2023. This translates to a significant decrease in the unemployment rate.

More Filipinos Joining the Workforce

The labor force participation rate in the Philippines also rose in June 2024. This means more Filipinos are actively seeking employment or are available for work. The increase in labor force participation can be attributed to a rise in the construction sector, which created new job opportunities.

Employment Rate on the Rise

The employment rate in the Philippines rose to a record high of 96.9% in June 2024. This indicates a strong labor market with a significant portion of the workforce employed. There were 50.2 million Filipinos employed in June, with the services sector remaining the leading source of employment.

Underemployment Remains a Challenge

While the unemployment rate is down, underemployment remains a concern. The underemployment rate increased to 12.1% in June 2024. This means that a significant number of Filipinos are working part-time or in jobs that don’t fully utilize their skills and qualifications.

Government Efforts to Improve the Philippine Job Market

The Philippine government is actively working to improve the country’s business climate to create more jobs. These efforts aim to attract investments and stimulate economic growth, which will ultimately lead to more employment opportunities for Filipinos.

In conclusion, the Philippine job market showed positive signs in June 2024. The unemployment rate decreased, the employment rate increased, and more Filipinos joined the workforce. However, underemployment remains a challenge that needs to be addressed. The government’s efforts to improve the business climate are a step in the right direction towards creating a more robust job market in the Philippines.
