Holy Week 2024 Preparations in the Philippines

Holy Week is a solemn and significant period in the Philippines, a predominantly Catholic nation. It’s a time for Filipinos to reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many observe traditions like Visita Iglesia (church visits), attending special masses, and participating in processions. To ensure a safe and secure Holy Week 2024 for everyone, the government has implemented various measures.

Government Ensures Public Safety

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is prepared to ensure public safety during Holy Week. Over 180,000 police officers will be deployed to key locations nationwide. The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) assures the public that there are no monitored threats so far.

Half-Day Work for Government Employees on Holy Wednesday

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a half-day work suspension in government offices on Holy Wednesday. This will allow government employees to observe Holy Week traditions and travel to their hometowns. Private companies can decide on their own suspensions.

Over 50,000 Police Officers Deployed

The Philippine government deploys over 50,000 police officers and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel nationwide to guarantee traveler safety during Holy Week. PNP Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. and NCRPO Brigadier General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. are overseeing the security measures.

In addition to the information above, the DILG also advised the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. They encouraged everyone to have a safe and meaningful Holy Week celebration.

With the combined efforts of law enforcement and the public’s vigilance, Filipinos can celebrate Holy Week with peace of mind.
